The wiki is down currently. It seems that the SourceForge crew modified the web services again. I'm working on it.
Hi everyone ! I've just updated the development page with the ongoing TODOs. There's still a lot of work to get the Sharp Plus Framework's OpenGL GUI module functional.
Happy May Day everyone ! We'd like to let you know that there's no holiday for OpenCity's guys ;-) Okay, I'm just kidding.
OpenCity-0.0.6.2 is known to run smoothly under Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. Concerning the Sharp Plus Framework, we integrated only a tiny part of it in the OpenCity source so far because the framework doesn't have enough useful features yet. But we've achieved a milestone in the development of the framework: it now offers a bare unit testing framework for future development.
Thanks to the tips given by "paullange" from the OpenCity's forum, the recent ATI Catalyst driver bug has gone. A new bugs fixed version of OpenCity is now available for download. It should work on Vista machines with the Catalyst drivers.
Currently, we can not test OpenCity under Windows 7 because we don't have any copy of that operating system. Anyways, we continue to progress under the Linux platform. We're going to release a development version with the Sharp Plus Framework in the next days.
Hi all ! During the last weeks, we were working on the simulation core specifications. The engine core is responsible for the simulation algorithm and runs on either a distant or local server. Later, we will work on the specifications of the client applications which can be graphical or console based. The client-server architecture allows us to offer the possibility to play in a collaboration mode where two players or more share the same map in the future.
There is a lot of work in the current requirements writing process. The essential of information is available at our Wiki. You are welcome to participate and help us. The specifications writing process doesn't require any advanced programming technics. It's just about what the software should or must do or must not do.
Happy New Year '09 everybody ! Over the last months, we've worked on the design of the game itself. We decided to use more and more libraries and build a little C++ framework that we need to simplify the development process in the future. The new framework is named "Sharp Plus Framework" because it's based on the .NET framework and C++. Currently, we use the Boost library and we rely on the upcoming C++0x language standard. We also use more and more advanced C++ techniques such as template and smart pointers.
The forum and the wiki have been fixed. The new website has been uploaded at www.opencity.info whereas the old site is still online at opencity.sourceforge.net. Maybe we're going to keep the SourceForge free hosting as a mirror site in the future. By the way, OpenCity-0.0.6 releases are now available for GNU/Linux and Windows. Have fun all !
Welcome to the new OpenCity web site designed after the famous css Zen Garden. The layout is done by CSS. Due to a recent SourceForge server wide migration, the forum doesn't work anymore. We'll fix it later. Concerning the development of OpenCity, we're now using Code::Blocks to fix few OpenCity issues under Windows. Since it works pretty well, we're planning to use Code::Blocks as a cross platform IDE for futher development.
Hi all ! We've released a new source development version of OpenCity: the 0.0.6dev1. You can get it from the download page. It contains work in progress improvements we've worked on since the last stable version.
Wassup ? We, the OpenCity team, are working continuously on the project. We improve the last stable version, fix bugs, and enhance the simulation engine. Stay tuned !
HapPi nEw y3aR 2008 ! The windows release candidate version has been validated and the official stable version is now available for the Windows platforms. That's not all, there's also a backported version available in a source tarball format for other systems. Have fun !
Hey ! The last stable version of OpenCity is out there. It's available in source code tar ball and in binary package format for Mandriva, Suse and Slackware GNU/Linux distribution. Microsoft Windows users still need to wait for few weeks. We're going hard to bring the last version to Microsoft Visual C++.
It's done. The OpenCity-0.0.5beta is now available for download. Currently, there is not yet a new release for the Windows system. Be patient !
Hi all ! It has been a long time since I updated the site. However I'm pleased to announce the next version will be available soon. Stay tuned ;-)
Hey wassup ^^ ? I, the main developer of this project, have just moved to a new flat. It's bigger, and I have much more free space but I don't have an ADSL connection yet :) Anyway, the development still goes on because we don't really need an Internet connection to work on the game. Have a look at the lastest screenshot, you'll love it.
Hi all, we continue to work on the next exciting simulation model. There are few issues that we need to fix as you can see in the new screenshot. Anyway, OpenCity is fun to work with.
OpenCity homesite now speaks Japanese thanks to the Google translation tool. We know that it's not accurate but we believe that it can help other users to understand what OpenCity is about. You'll need an advanced browser for multilingual support. Concerning the game itself, we are working on a better simulation model.
Hi there ! We continue our efforts toward the next golden release of OpenCity, the 3D city simulation with a bunch of new features. At the mean time, there's no screenshot available yet. But we promise that we'll give you one the next time we update the site ^^.
